| | Editor's Choice | | | SAPPHIRE HD 4550 512MB DDR3 PCI-E FANLESS | Folks, the $59.99 Sapphire HD4550 is, quite simply, a great card. You have to buy the card under the proper technical reasons (low power consumption, 1/2 height video solution, cool running, excellent HTPC performance on playback, HDMI and HDCP compliance) and not because you are wanting to play Bioshock/Farcry2/Crysis at the highest framerates. This card excells at the market it is aimed squarely at, and I will unequivicably recommend this card for people who have gaming performance 2nd or 3rd down the list, and HTPC needs in the front. Put simply, this little card RAWKS! If I keep saying things like this, the vendor is going to start thinking I am hitting on them. ;) | |

| | Budget Award from Overclockers Online | | | SAPPHIRE HD 4550 512MB DDR3 PCI-E FANLESS | Well, I honestly have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the performance and features of the HD4550. It comes with every feature and accessory you could want for a HTPC setup and even handles games fairly well. At around $60 US you easily get your money's worth and more. I really can't find any fault as everything ran smoothly and while it's not the strongest in games, it performs well enough for light duty and should be able to handle most games out there today. With built in 7.1 audio and high definition support, the HD4550 is the ideal card for your HTPC but will also make the casual gamer quite happy. | |
|
| | 10 out of 10 Score | | | SAPPHIRE HD 4550 512MB DDR3 PCI-E FANLESS | This card is intended to give excellent performance for the average computer user, with the benefit of Blu-Ray decoding, HD Audio via HDMI, and 1080p resolution, making it an excellent choice for a HTPC. You probably won't find another LP card with 512 megs of GDDR3 memory. The fan was silent, which was a little surprising. I have to give special mention to the card's bundle. The included LP bracket has to be purchased separately for most video cards, and they run about 8 bucks. Many low end cards still don't include an HDMI adapter. If needed, these two items add much value to this already inexpensive video card. | |

| | Recommended by Club Overclocker | | | SAPPHIRE HD 4550 512MB DDR3 PCI-E FANLESS | For HTPC applications this card is absolutely perfect. The excellent decoding for both VC-1 and H.264 is very impressive, as well as the relative lack of noise from the fan and the small overall size of the card. Add in the HDMI 7 channel audio capability, and you have the perfect home media solution. | |
|
| | Approved by Pro Clockers | | | SAPPHIRE HD 4550 512MB DDR3 PCI-E FANLESS | If you are planning to buy the card to replace one in an office workstation or to build up a HTPC system I would not stop you as I think this is what it is best for. And it will do it without breaking the bank. But if for some reason you did decide to get the HD 4550 fear not as you can add a second one at a later time and run them in Crossfire mode. And if you do have a AMD chipset like the 780/790 then hybrid Crossfire is possible. | |

| | Approved by Phoronix | | | SAPPHIRE HD 4550 512MB DDR3 PCI-E FANLESS | Over the past few months we have looked at several Sapphire graphics cards including the Radeon HD 4670, Radeon HD 4850 Toxic, Radeon HD 4870, and Radeon HD 4870 Toxic Vapor-X. All of these cards have performed quite well on Linux with the Catalyst Linux driver and there is even open-source support for these R700 series graphics cards.
Overall, for a low-end card the Radeon HD 4550 is a reputable performer that is derived from the RV770 architecture. The Sapphire Radeon HD 4550 sample had no issues with cooling and its petite fan was near silent while running.
|
| | HTPC Recommended Hardware | | | SAPPHIRE HD 4550 512MB DDR3 PCI-E FANLESS | The Sapphire Radeon HD4550 will only make a small dent in your wallet, coming in at a very reasonable $59.99. This is a very nice cost considering the features and performance I was able to get out of it.
Even if you are only looking to drop this into an HTPC you are going to get your money’s worth from it.
The HD4550 is a great entry level card. I was surprise that only one game was not playable out of the ones that I chose, I was expecting terrible gaming performance and poor image quality but that was not the case.
While you won’t be floored by the speed and power of the HD4550 it is a great and cost effective card that would fit perfectly in an HTPC or entry level gaming system.
