| | Furious 5 of 5 Award by Ninjalane | | | SAPPHIRE HD5870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE (Game Edition) | Sapphire has created a very impressive package with the Radeon HD5870 that tends to make up for the fact this card is based on the ATI reference design.
It is time to also hit into one incredibly strong point that the Radeon HD5870 proven in our tests. When we tested Dirt 2 all of the settings were cranked up and the new DirectX 11 was enabled. Despite this the card still outscored completion. This just goes to show that the Radeon HD5870 does have processing power despite its lackluster performance numbers using the older titles. This does let us know that extreme resolutions are not going to be an issue with the Sapphire Radon HD5870 and with it Eyefinity may have a strong chance of starting a new gaming revolution beyond the console.

| | Victus Award by Hitechlegion | | | SAPPHIRE HD5870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE (Game Edition) | The Sapphire 5000 Series of DirectX 11 video cards were more than capable of maintaining acceptable benchmarks in all resolutions tested. Performance was smooth and crisp in all and the gaming experience was enjoyable.
For those of you who want the best performance from your video card when gaming, the Sapphire HD 5870 will not let you down. At this time, it is the most powerful single GPU on the market. It is also capable of maintaining acceptable frame rates at any resolution, even with AA and AF set to max.
For those of you who still seek great gaming performance, but a 5870 is not in your budget, the Sapphire HD 5850 shouldn’t be considered a step down since there was only about a 15% difference in performance between the two, yet at a more affordable price.
If you're getting ready for a change and are looking for a video card that can take advantage of what your new system may have to offer, Sapphire has a line of DirectX 11 video cards that will fit any budget.

| | Editor's Choice by Computer Shopper | | | SAPPHIRE HD5870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE (Game Edition) | We also were impressed with the card's ability to accelerate video playback, though considering its other capabilities, we didn't expect any glitches. Video playback with both DVDs and Blu-ray discs was smooth and vivid, even at HD resolutions. Plus, during our testing, the card was stable, and we didn't encounter any driver glitches. At idle, the fan is relatively quiet, but when the card is working hard, it quickly becomes the loudest component in the computer. It's not shop-vac-level distracting, but it's clearly noticeable even in a low-noise PC case.
The HD 5870 is an easy choice for performance fiends with huge monitors, and those who crank all of a game's graphics settings to 11 and want to be able to continue to do so a year in the future.
If you're running at 1,920x1,200 resolution or lower, however, ATI may just be competing with itself with its lower-end Radeon HD 5770, which offers very playable performance in today's games at those resolutions, but at a price less than half that of the Radeon HD 5870.

| | Gold Tachometer Award by Benchmarkreviews | | | SAPPHIRE HD5870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE (Game Edition) | AMD has launched the Radeon 5870 as their first assault on their multi-monitor ATI Eyefinity Technology feature, using native HDMI 1.3 output paired with DisplayPort connectivity.
ATI Eyefinity Technology is a tough nut to crack for NVIDIA, since their DirectX 10 products only offer dual-DVI output.
For the time being, ATI's Radeon HD 5870 is the most powerful single-GPU product available, and the only graphics card capable of playing DirectX 11 games.
In summary, there's a long future ahead for the Radeon HD 5870. DirectX 11 is the future of gaming, whether the competition likes it or not, and ATI has a huge head-start on absorbing an early market share. Eyefinity is a nice touch and it certainly adds to the gaming experience, but there's such an incredibly small portion of potential users for the technology that in reality the Radeon 5800 series has only its shear graphics power to make the sales pitch. I give my recommendation for the Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 DirectX 11 video card 21161-00-50R for high-performance gamers and multi-monitor power users.

| | Editor's Choice by Motherboards.org | | | SAPPHIRE HD5870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE (Game Edition) | The Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 card is clocked at the default clock speeds which provide plenty of performance for every game out there today and if you want more performance get a second card.
This card comes with a coupon for Dirt 2 which is the first DirectX 11 game coming in December.
As this the only HD 5870 card I have reviewed and it performs almost as fast as a GTX295 which is NVIDIA’s dual GPU card and faster than the GTX285 which was the previous fastest card on the market, I give the Sapphire card the Editor’s Choice for those wanting a fast video card with support for the future DirectX 11 games and support for Eyefinity, allowing up to 3 monitors to be utilized at the same time on this card.
|
 | | Editor's Choice by OverClockersClub | | | SAPPHIRE HD5870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE (Game Edition) | The HD5870 is not just about increasing gaming performance but the whole package. ATI has a phrase for this launch! "Expand" with Eyefinity the newest multi-monitor technology that creates an immersive environment. "Accelerate" with DX 11 technology. The HD5870 is the first and only DirectX 11 video card to market. Last, but not least, "Dominate" with ATI's Stream computing.
The Sapphire HD5870 is built upon the DirectX11 capable 40nm RV870 core with clock speeds of 850MHz on the GPU core and 1200MHz on the 1GB frame buffer.
I didn't think ATI had it in them to step up the performance on a video card this much in one fell swoop. When you look at the performance you can tell that the level of performance delivered by the GTX285 was just a jumping off point for the performance expectations. After running the first bench with the Sapphire HD5870, the first thought in my head when I saw the result was "Damn, ATI is back."
Having only a few hours to test this card I am sure with a little more diligence the card can reach higher than what I was able to pull from it in fifteen minutes.
There is something to be said about firing the first shot. With the introduction of the HD58XX series ATI has launched new technologies such as Eyefinity, a multi monitor technology for more immersive gaming, not to mention giving you more desktop workspace with a theorectical maximum resolution of up to 8192 x 8192. The HD5870 is the first card that supports DirectX 11.
All things told, this is the fastest single GPU video card you can buy right now, hands down!
|
| | DAM Innovative and DAM Good Awards by Hardwarecanucks | | | SAPPHIRE HD5870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE (Game Edition) | The Sapphire HD 5870 is simply one of the most powerful cards available on the market.
We may as well continue our love song by saying that the HD 5870’s performance per watt is just deranged, off the wall and plain stunning to behold. It needs less power than a GTX 285 but it blows the Nvidia card away when it comes to pure gaming performance.
As we said, being the first to market with a DX11 card without any DX11 games is a huge risk both for ATI and for early adopters who have no idea how the products they buy will perform in future applications. That being said, based on what we have see, there shouldn’t be any issue at all. These next few months of ATI domination on the DX11 front are critical for them to get a foothold in what could be a very lucrative market if the API the 5000-series is geared towards gains popularity.
To sum this up on a more personal note, I have to pay the HD 5870 the highest compliment I can bestow on any piece of hardware by saying that I wouldn’t hesitate to use it in my own system.

| | Extreme Speed Award by HEXUS | | | SAPPHIRE HD5870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE (Game Edition) | Nonetheless, the performance is unmistakable, and the card's sheer throughput is backed with the inherent goodness of DirectX 11 compliance - which, as we've stated before, brings its own bag of goodies to boot, including mandated hardware tessellation and the useful DirectCompute shader for GPGPU duties. | |
