in some cases the $199 priced Radeon HD 4850 can win against the 9800GTX and it clearly wins against the previous price performance king, the Geforce 8800GT

SAPPHIRE HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E
The Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 costs around $200 which is a great price for a mid range product such as this. Think about this, the card should be able to stand near the Radeon HD 3870 X2 and that was a pretty expensive card. If you already own a 3800 series card, you're best bet it to wait till the 4870s are out in force before jumping on the 4800 series. Even so, the 4850 has amazing performance with a good price point. The bundle that Sapphire provides is icing on the cake

SAPPHIRE HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E
Sapphire has always offered the most influential ATI graphics products available, and the new Radeon HD 4850 is no different. The most likeable part of the Radeon HD 4850 is that it debuted at under $200, forcing NVIDIA to drop the price of their GeForce 9800 GTX to meet with competition.

Honestly, the Radeon HD4850 has blown me away over the last week or so. While this card is not even the flagship of the HD 4800 series, the performance offerings are enough to attract me. Through our series of benchmarks, I saw the Radeon HD4850 beat the competition in Windows, and not fall far from the top score in Linux. All in all, I have absolutely no complaints about the Sapphire Radeon HD4850.

SAPPHIRE HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E
The first test I ran for CoD4 was what I figured to be the "best case" scenario for the 4850. Finally, I let out all the stops and maxed out everything I could, and here is how it did: 21fps minimum, 83fps max, and an average of 51fps. Here we are just touching on the very edge of the limit; the 4850 is still mostly playable at these settings. Not bad at all for a "mid-range" card.

Golden Award
SAPPHIRE HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E
AMD raised the performance of the new Radeon HD 4850 to a completely new level. Sapphire HD 4850 has, today, the biggest advantage, even with nVidia pushing their partners to drop GeForce 9800 GTX’s price down to USD 200. Sapphire HD 4850 is the video card that brings the best cost/benefit ratio for the savvy user looking for a high-end video card: it costs at least half the price of GeForce 9800 GX2, GeForce GTX 260 and GeForce GTX 280 and still brings a high-end gaming performance to your PC.

DAM Good Value Award
SAPPHIRE HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E
Even though there are plenty of competitors on the market, Sapphire has delivered a HD4850 which they should be proud of. They are able to stand above other ATI board partners by offering an extremely complete package with everything from DVD viewing & creation software to game demos to a copy of 3DMark06. The HD4850 offers users the best bang for their buck at this point in time and ATI should be proud of themselves for keeping costs down while bringing some amazing performance to the table. Thus, we are proud to present the Sapphire HD4850 512MB with our Dam Good Value Award.

SAPPHIRE HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E
There you have it, a video card that will run you approximately $200.00 and is able to handle everything we tossed at it in remarkable fashion. I admit it is not a 3870 X2 video card, but it also does not cost as much as one either. If you are in the market for a video card that will work just a good as a HTPC component or a gaming card then the Sapphire HD 4850 is the card for you.

From the first look at the Sapphire HD4850 package, you are going to begin to want this card, this is because of the sheer design of the package. I had expected to see some great numbers from the new card, however what I saw was way beyond what I expected. I would suggest picking up and trying a Sapphire HD4850; especially at the price, you should be able to pick up a few of them to get the best scores you possibly can.

The Radeon 4800 series enjoyed a successful debut, proving the worthiness of the developer’s new strategy. Thanks to the thought-through and thoroughly optimized architecture, the relatively simple and inexpensive Radeon HD 4850 and 4870 cards delivered high performance in games. The junior model was especially brilliant. Officially priced at only $199 it easily competed with the GeForce 9800 GTX that had been originally designed as a top-end product.
