The Sapphire Radeon 4870 is indeed a card that continues to offer excellent performance for he price, even though it's not a freshly new product. It does have the horsepower to produce very playable framerates in just about any game, even at higher resolutions with the eye candy enabled. Boasting great performance for your hard-earned dollar, the Sapphire Radeon 4870 is an excellent option for gamers who are looking to upgrade their performance without breaking the bank.

The Radeon HD 4870 is another great winner from ATI who luckily have brought real competition to Nvidia and not only that have caught them off guard with huge gains and price cuts bringing amazing performance to the sub $200 performance metric. HD 4870 is definitely an incredibly impressive card that beats Nvidia's best except for the GTX 280, offers more in support and features with Direct X 10.1 support, and all around re-ignites the PC market. Congrats to ATI and we can't wait to see what happens next.

The Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 delivers that raw performance and allows you to run at extremely high resolutions with full AA and AF settings. Gamers looking to buy a card should look no further. The Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 is as good as it gets for now. The X2 should be pretty impressive, but I doubt it will be even close to this price point (per performance). The 4870 is my choice for a performance video card.

SAPPHIRE HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
When it comes to ATI products Sapphire has always offered the most influential graphics cards available, and the new Radeon HD 4870 is no different. For the first time in this industry, we have a fully-functional product equipped with 900 MHz GDDR5 video frame buffer. During Crysis testing with 4x AA added, the Radeon HD 4870 was able to outperform the GeForce 9800 GX2 by nearly 40%, showing a prevailing strength in high-demand post-processing effects. The Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 is an outstanding product and just as good as the alternative

SAPPHIRE HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
Over the course of this review, the Sapphire Radeon HD4870 512MB graphics card showed that it could outperform a 512MB HD3870 with ease. Improvements of 54%, 66%, and 96% are just a few snapshots of how much better the HD4870 fared in some tests, and the only way the playing field was leveled was to use two cores as found on an HD3870 X2 card. Considering the excellent performance in benchmarks and games, the Sapphire Radeon HD4870 512MB graphics card earns the Bigbruin.com awards of "Gaming Approved" and "Recommended".

While the higher benchmark numbers are nice, the Sapphire HD 4870 made us just as happy as any of the other tested GPU's in gaming and surfing. When it comes to graphics, Synthetics are good for comparison, but living and gaming with a GPU is really where you want satisfaction. We found that satisfaction with the Sapphire HD 4870. Sapphire and ATI have managed to close a significant portion of the performance gap, and they've done it at a price that most enthusiasts will be glad to see. Gaming was pleasurable and trouble-free on the Sapphire HD 4870, and ATI Overdrive made it easy to obtain a decent overclock.

There simply is a faster solution for the money than the Radeon HD 4870 – it delivers world-class performance on all accounts, sells for less money than the competition and uses less power in doing so. Sapphire has a real winner on its hands here and presents a card that I feel is the best graphics card going right now considering cost-to-performance ratio – two of these are cheaper than a 280GTX and beat the crap out of it.

The card's performance is groundbreaking for its price. Setting a new performance standard in its price range, the Radeon HD 4870 is a purchase that gamers with larger monitors— who don't want to drop more than $600 on a graphics card—won't regret.

Wow, just wow, our jaws were on the floor when we saw Assassin’s Creed performance with the Sapphire Radeon HD 4870. The great thing about the Radeon HD 4870 is its performance for the price if it hits at or below the promised $299 retail price point.

If you have around USD 300 to spend on a video card Radeon HD 4870 is certainly today your best option. As mentioned, it reaches the same performance as GeForce GTX 260 or better, and if you search carefully you can find it being sold cheaper than GeForce GTX 260.

After we reviewed the Sapphire HD4850 we thought we had seen the best that ATI/AMD had to offer. We found just how wrong we were when we ran our first test with the Sapphire HD 4870. Here is a video card that has Nvidia scratching it's head try to find card that will compete with it. Being a true ATI fan boy I think it is great that the roles have finally been reverse and for now ATI has the best performing and selling cards available today. It may be a bit early to forecast this but if I were picking the top video card of year it would either be the ATI/AMD 3870 X2 or the AMD/ATI HD4870.

The Radeon HD 4850 is generally faster than the GeForce 9800 GTX and right on-par with or somewhat faster than the upcoming GeForce 9800 GTX+ in most applications. At their respective price points, the Radeon HD 4850 and Radeon HD 4870 are extremely strong products. The Radeon HD 4870's feature set is also very good, its cooler is relatively quiet, and performance is top notch. And dare we say a $300 graphics card represents and excellent value, from a price point perspective? These cards are definitely going to put significant price pressure on NVIDIA's GTX 200 series.

One of the best things about getting a Sapphire Branded graphics card is all the dang stuff you get with it! I mean most of the time you have to dig you way through plenty of great stuff to finally get to your card. The Sapphire card is a very exciting graphics card for ATI in that it shows that they could “Take the lead” again. All my games ran great and with no slow down at all, even when maxed out. In my mind it would be crazy to pass up this card at this current price or even if you wait just a bit for the next price drops. When that happens then you need to grab yourself two of these cards for CrossfireX and then you’ll really get the most bang for you buck.

Sapphire sweetens the deal with all of the goodies and extras that they include, such as the 2GB thumb drive and full versions of popular software which to me always makes me feel like I am getting a better deal.

When using anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering, the Radeon HD 4850 and 4870 had an immediate and significant advantage over the NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX competition and the earlier Radeon HD 3870. With all of that said, we are very pleased with the ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB graphics card. This graphics card was introduced with same-day Linux support, superb 2D support compared to NVIDIA on Linux, and the best OpenGL performance we have seen that's able to annihilate the NVIDIA competition when using advanced image quality settings.

The world was turned upside down with the relesae of the ATI 4870. The price versus performance could not be matched by anything Nvidia had to offer. No longer must we pay $600 plus for a very high performing video card. Sapphire and ATI has made sure of that. With the 4870 using the RV770 GPU chipset the price for a great card is well in reach of almost everyone. It is nice to see someone on a limited budget be able to play Crysis at a high settings and still afford to upgrade other areas of their PC like ram for instance. The Sapphire HD4870 ran like a bat out of hell.

SAPPHIRE HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
The ATI Radeon 4870 is remarkable when it comes to really pushing ahead of what’s already achieved. It passed all of our strenuous exams on every difficult benchmark at every resolution with DX 10 and 10.1 enabled games, shows tremendous performance per watt and area, and moreover doesn’t take up a lot of power or make a loud sound during the late nights. You want to game, so do it your way and have fun without worrying about your card. Getting the ATI Radeon HD 4870 is quite possibly one of the best things you will do for yourself in 2008, other than getting off the computer chair and doing something else of course. It will be difficult with this in the house.
