SAPPHIRE TOXIC HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
I have to admit, at first I thought that this card would be much like the rest with a slight performance increase and a better cooling solution. But through testing and benchmarking, this card has impressed me with a sizable performance increase, a good overclocking experience and all for a price that at this time is under US$200. Overall, this is a very fast factory overclocked video card that should allow any user to game comfortably with decent resolutions and quality settings.

SAPPHIRE TOXIC HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
Sapphire is one of the more well-known manufacturers of ATI-based video cards, and they have a secret weapon in the world of single-GPU video cards. Sapphire's HD 4870 Toxic card accomplishes what it sets out to do. The performance of this card is phenominal, as it holds its own and even surpasses its closest competitor: and it does it for a few hundred dollars less. The HD 4870 Toxic is a great performer. The 4870 Toxic consumes far less power, is cheaper than, and (in many cases) outperforms nVidia's GTX 280 video card. Given its price point, the 4870 Toxic has some of the best performance for the money, and it is factory-overclocked.

SAPPHIRE TOXIC HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
The Sapphire HD 4870 Toxic made us just as happy as any of the other tested GPU's in gaming and surfing. Performance wise, between SLI and Crossfire, the scaling that you get with Crossfire has been better in the past and looks to stay that way for the time being. It runs on motherboards that are a lot less expensive than SLI boards, and is the better performer at a better price point for multiple GPU setups. Sapphire and ATI have managed to close a significant portion of the performance gap, and they've done it at a price that enthusiasts will be glad to see. Now for the hard part. Would I recommend one of these to a family member or friend? I’d have to give that a big yes.

I think it's worth everyone's wait for Toxic. As far as brandings go, anyway. But Sapphire puts so much effort into general improvements over the stock designs. If you're interested in ATI's best single-GPU video card, and want a quiet--if not silent--4870, without heat issues or overclocking limits, really now you know what your choice has got to be. The bundle has the bases covered, the looks of the card are stellar, and almost every other aspect is improved over the initially-released model.

Quite simply, the Radeon HD TOXIC takes AMD's reference cooler, rightly bins it, and replaces it with something that's leagues ahead in the cooling department

As all of the many tests we ran should show, the Sapphire 4870 Toxic Edition is quite impressive. It looks sharp and the numbers it puts up look even better. I think without question this card is in the same ballpark as Nvidia’s 200 series of cards, but with a kicker. The performance blows the older generation of cards out of the water. This card and the 200-series of cards are competing in a totally different ballpark. You won’t be disappointed.

SAPPHIRE TOXIC HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
The Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 Toxic is not only special for its factory overclock, but its Vapor-X cooler is very powerful and clearly is a superior cooling solution. HD 4870 is an already great graphics card but with Sapphire bringing forth their Vapor-X cooler, this graphics card just got even better. With the factory overclock and triple heatpipe cooler, this graphics card will cost more than the other reference models, but only by a small margin.

SAPPHIRE TOXIC HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
I have used the Sapphire HD 4870 Toxic for 3 weeks straight now and well it has been a wonderful experience. I have not had one fault or found a flaw under normal use and even under heavy over clocked gaming. If you do not already have a Sapphire HD 4870 or even if you do I highly recommend that you look at getting the Toxic card as you could use them in CrossFire mode when you want to or just run the faster Toxic when the non Crossfire mode hits you.

SAPPHIRE TOXIC HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
What is there to say about the Sapphire HD4870 Toxic video card other than it is amazing? I was very surprised to see the benchmarking scores that it was able to produce. I was very pleased to see how well Sapphire paid attention to the little details of the card such as placing a large enough cooling solution on it to keep down the high temperatures the RV770 core has been producing, limiting the overclockability of the cards and the lifespan of them. If you are looking to take the leap away from your older video card to something that is going to be able to give you the performance boost to your entire system, this card is what you should be looking for! I would suggest picking up at least one of these for your next build.

SAPPHIRE TOXIC HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
I was extremely impressed with the reference HD4870, but the Toxic version is one nice video card. The main issues I had with the reference HD4870 was the heat issue and the overclocking. They both have been addressed in the Toxic version. The Toxic was easily superior in overclocking and cooling. Overall it's hard to go wrong with this card. Club Overclocker Recommended!

SAPPHIRE TOXIC HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
The Sapphire Toxic Radeon HD4870 512MB graphics card takes the already solid performance of ATI's top of the line single GPU solution and ratchets things up a little higher with a factory overclock and a unique cooler. In terms of single GPU performance the Radeon HD4870 set the bar pretty high, and the Sapphire Toxic Radeon HD4870 512MB graphics card had its work cut out for it to look much better. Considering the excellent performance of the card and its cooler, the Sapphire Toxic Radeon HD4870 512MB graphics card earns the Bigbruin.com awards of "Gaming Approved" and "Recommended".

SAPPHIRE TOXIC HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
The graphics were really incredible, and the 4870 had no problem handling everything I threw at it. Temps on the HD 4870 Toxic were impressive with the Vapor-X cooler, idle temp was 45C, and load temp was 54C. These temps are better than either of my HD 4850s, and both have nice coolers. The HD 4870 Toxic is a nice video card. Performance is really awesome. If you're looking for a high-performance card. ThinkComputers awards the Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 Toxic 512MB Factory Overclocked Video Card a 10 out of 10 score

SAPPHIRE TOXIC HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
There's no denying that Sapphire has improved the cooling design of the reference Radeon HD 4870. In terms of performance, the Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 Toxic Edition usually performed around 30% better than the Radeon HD 4850 and GeForce 9800 GTX+. In summary, the Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 Toxic Edition is an outstanding product with unbelievable cooling improvements over the stock version.

SAPPHIRE TOXIC HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
Sapphire has become known for it's TOXIC Edition cards which use their Vapor-X cooler with vapour chamber technology for better cooling but this 4870 TOXIC also features three large heatpipes and a thermally controlled fan which run quiet in all of our testing. I can say from personal experience stock 4800 cards, especially 4850's run too hot out of the box so this is good news from Sapphire and for ATI!

SAPPHIRE TOXIC HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E
If you have read any of my reviews of all the 4xxx series of cards from Sapphire you will know that I have been very very impressed. And this continues with the Toxic version of the HD4870. The card is extremely fast and has more in the tank when it comes to overclocking for even more performance. The first thing that many of you will reply with is "is this card worth the extra dollars over the reference design?" My response would be yes without any second guessing. This card overclocked more than the standard model even with it being o'ced from Sapphire. And if that isn't enough this card is quieter than the other as well. You will have to love that feature more than anything.
