Redefine HD Gaming

  • TeraScale Graphics Engine
The TeraScale graphics engine in the ATI Radeon™ HD 4890 features over one teraFLOPS, nearly one billion transistors and 800 stream processors so you can enjoy the high resolutions and fast frame rates previously only available with dual-card systems1.

  • Advanced Memory
GDDR5 provides twice the data per pin of GDDR3 memory at the same clock speeds.

  • Enhanced Anti-Aliasing & Anisotropic Filtering
High performance anisotropic filtering and 24x custom filter anti-aliasing (CFAA) smooth jagged edges and create true-to-life graphics, for everything from grass to facial features.

  • DirectX® 10.1
Play today while preparing for tomorrow with state-of-the-art DirectX 10.1 graphics capabilities.
  • ATI CrossFireX™ Technology
ATI CrossFireX™ technology with up to quad GPU support offers superior scalability so your system is ready to level up when you are2.

  • PCI Express 2.0
Support for PCI Express 2.0 will prepare you for bandwidth-hungry games and 3D applications.

  • Power to Spare
This GPU has the brute processing power needed for physics, artificial intelligence, stream computing and ray tracing calculations.

    1. Compared to previous generation ATI Radeon™ graphics processors.
    2. ATI CrossFireX™ technology requires an ATI CrossFireX Ready motherboard, an ATI CrossFireX™ Bridge Interconnect and may require a specialized power supply.

Go Beyond HD Video

  • Unified Video Decoder 2
UVD 2 frees up your CPU for other tasks so you get The Ultimate Visual Experience™ for even the most processing-intensive content, including VC-1, H.264 and now MPEG-2. Also, take full advantage of Blu-ray functionality with dual-stream, picture in picture (PIP) capabilities1,2.

  • Accelerated Video Transcoding (AVT)
With ATI Stream technology, owners of ATI Radeon™ HD 4800 series graphics cards can help accelerate the conversion of standard and HD video into multiple formats for use on differing consumer electronics devices. The ATI Video Converter, designed to enable GPU transcoding of HD video streams, is currently available.

  • Upscale Beyond 1080p
Watch the hottest Blu-ray movies or other HD content at full 1080p display resolution and beyond3.

  • Enhanced DVD Upscaling
Watch standard DVD movies in near high-definition quality with DVD upscaling. The GPU uses post processing algorithms to enhance standard and low resolution videos and movies on your HD display.

  • Dynamic Contrast
Dynamic Contrast automatically adjusts the contrast and brightness during scenes to consistently deliver a crisp, vibrant picture.

  • HDMI
Enjoy the latest audio technologies using HDMI with 7.1 digital surround sound support. Also, xvYCC support allows the user to enjoy a wider range of color when connected to a capable HDTV.

    1. HD capable monitor required
    2. Blu-ray drive required
    3. The ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series GPUs can upscale video display to 2560x1600 on dual-link monitors which is almost twice the display resolution of 1080p displays.

Break-through Efficiency

  • Dynamic Power Management
ATI Radeon HD 4890 GPUs deliver high performance when needed and conserve power when the demand on the graphics processor is low.

  • Energy Efficient Manufacturing Process
Second generation 55nm chip uses the industry’s most energy efficient manufacturing process.

System Requirements

  • PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard
  • 500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)

SAPPHIRE HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E
I would consider getting this card for any mainstream gaming machine. It's priced in a good spot, it's a very even-keeled performer, and with regards to the 4870, the 4890 is in almost every way improved. And what I was really looking for was better antialiasing and it certainly wins there.

SAPPHIRE HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E
The HD 4890 does all that ATI promised it would, it fills a gap in ATI's lineup, competes with the new GTX275, and puts ATI on the map for high graphics overclocking. The price is also great. All said, the HD 4890 is a terrific peice to the ATI puzzle, and is worthy of the title the most powerful single GPU from ATI.

SAPPHIRE HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E
Beginning with the performance rating, our expectations for the Radeon HD 4890 during gaming operation were thoroughly exceeded. In conclusion, the ATI Radeon HD 4890 is exactly what consumers have wanted for more than a year: ultra-high performance graphics that costs less than the competition. Now AMD/ATI returns to put NVIDIA back in line, and offers the HD4890 to compete against the GTX 285... but at a much lower price.

In all categories that batter, it is either better or the same as the 4870. The Crossfire setup for the 4890s really shows its muscle, taking a 15% lead over the 4870X2. The 4890 Crossfire pretty well obliterated the 4870X2, for the most part gaining 17-28%. Playability was maintained all the way through the 1920x1200 resolution. I am impressed. Overall, I feel the card is yet another winner from AMD and Sapphire.

SAPPHIRE HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E
Sure, at face value the HD 4890 looks a hell of a lot like the HD 4870 but this isn’t a rebadge folks; the RV790 core and the card’s components combine to make this card a different beast altogether. Its higher clocks meant that it retained a good 10-20% performance advantage over a stock-clocked HD 4870 1GB and it placed a serious beat down on the GTX 260 216. The HD 4890 1GB is the first card we have seen that can clock to 1Ghz (and beyond) on nothing but stock cooling. Not only does ATI now have a card that bridges the gap between the HD 4870 1GB and the HD 4870 X2 but it has also put the screws to Nvidia as evidenced by their rushed GTX 275 release and its subsequent paper launch. - Amazing performance - Huge overclocking headroom - Good accessory package - Efficient under load - Price

SAPPHIRE HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E
The HD 4890 offers very good, all-around performance, and is another great addition to the HD 4800 series. And while the more price-sensitve video card buyers might be able to find a better-bang for buck with some models than have been out a bit longer, the HD 4890 is a real contender offering good value from the get-go, and is a nice (presumed) finish to the HD 4800 series.

SAPPHIRE HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E
With a new generation core based on the architecture of the R770 and improved memory management, the R790 based HD 4890 offers higher clock speeds and better performance against the previous generation ATI video cards across the board. If you are running a poor overclocking stock HD 4870 1GB video card, the Sapphire HD 4890 offers a substantial increase in performance over these cards. The Sapphire HD 4890 can output high definition video as well as 7.1 sound through HDMI via the supplied adapter so you can enjoy full 1080p content. If you need a new video card, the HD 4890 offers great performance at a price that won't break the bank at $249. Considering the price point of past high end launches, the HD4890 offers performance both stock and overclocked for a reasonable amount of your hard earned money.
