SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E OC
|
| The SAPPHIRE HD 4890 Vapor-X model is a new SAPPHIRE original design. It has SAPPHIRE’s Vapor-X cooling module on the GPU together with a heatsink and profiled fan venting heat out of the case. It is quieter and significantly faster than the standard reference model, with core clock speed of 870MHz and 1GB of DDR5 memory clocked at 1050MHz. Any two of the four output options can be used simultaneously, giving maximum flexibility for connection to different display types. An HDMI to DVI adaptor is also included for those who wish to use a pair of DVI monitors. | | |

| Vapor-X Cooling
Vapor Chamber Technology is based on the same principles as heatpipe technology. A liquid coolant is vaporised at a hot surface, the resulting vapor is condensed at a cold surface then the liquid is returned to the hot surface. The recirculation process is controlled by a patented wick system.
SAPPHIRE Vapor-X flattens the whole system into a slim chamber - which in the graphics application is mounted in contact with the surface of the graphics chip.

Black Diamond Choke
Choke is an important component of the graphics card. By working with the component engineer, Sapphire’s patent pending choke is 10% cooler and offers 25% more power efficiency than a normal choke. The graphics card will be more reliable and save energy.

Full Solid Cap Design
Improved reliability and better overclocking are possible by using only high-polymer, aluminum capacitors which posses far superior characteristics than regular aluminum capacitor for a longer product life. When operational temperatures drop by 20 C, the product life span is extended by a factor of ten, when the operational temperature increases by 20 C, the product life span only decreases by 10%.

| | SAPPHIRE HD 4890 Vapor-X | | Reviewed by Overclock3D.net | | SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E OC | Sapphire HD4890 Vapor-X is an extremely good example of how innovative cooling solutions can make the difference between a good card and an excellent one. Sapphires Vapor-X technology is one such innovation which differentiates this card from being an also-ran to a 1st place finish. An old adage said that if you can't stand the heat you'd better get out of the kitchen. Well if you have this card in your armoury you can stay in the kitchen all day long. Personally, that would just be a waste of good gaming time which if I haven't already mentioned, this card also happens to excel at. | |

| | SAPPHIRE HD 4890 | | Reviewed by CPU3D.com | | SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E OC | I have no problems recommending the Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 Vapor-X. It offers good performance and comes with plenty of features. These include the use of an overclocked GPU @ 870Mhz and 1Gb of GDDR5 ram at 1050Mhz, there's also 4 types of display outputs, and of course Sapphire's Vapor-X cooling. All of these great features make this card an ideal choice for the gamer. | |
|
| | Approved by Techwarelabs | | | SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E OC | After a series of tests we found the card to be a stable GPU that runs cool, stays silent (for the most part) and handles quite a load graphics wise. The frame rate in the majority of games came out excellent. The card didn’t hit temperatures too far over 50 Celsius, even while gaming and the added silence of the fan at 50% was nice.
Because this card performed so well, and especially because of how silent and cool it remained even while under stress, the Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD 4890 definitely deserves the TechwareLabs Approved Hardware Award.

| | Recommended by Neoseeker | | | SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E OC | The HD 4890 Vapor-X is another all-around great effort from Sapphire.
The Vapor-X cooler is a solid performer: not very noisy, and as chilly as the Vapor-X's arctic box-art alludes to. The bundle is complete -- especially nice to see that HDMI-DVI adapter. And of course, the RV790's performance is always something that will bring a smile to any gamer's face.
It is important to note that when it comes to comparison of only HD 4890's currently available, the Vapor-X represents a very good value, offering an above average, mildly-overclocked HD 4890 for about the standard price of a default designed HD 4890.
Also going for the HD 4890 Vapor-X are the display output options: it is great to see all four options there. The Sapphire HD 4890 Vapor-X represents a high-quality build of the HD 4890, and as such, it is highly recommended if you are thinking of going with a HD 4890.

| | Recommended and Whisper Quiet Award by BigBruin | | | SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E OC | The bottom line on the Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD4890 1GB graphics card is that it offers high end performance with minimal noise; two items near the very top of my checklist of things to look for in a graphics card.
Another nice touch with this card is that the dual slot back plate was partially used to add more video connections. While there is some room for hot air to be exhausted out of the case, there are also integrated DVI, VGA, HDMI, and Display Port connections. With the included Display Port to DVI adapter, you have the ability to run three typical displays while also having your HDTV hooked up via HDMI. Given the performance and silence, the Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD4890 1GB graphics card earns the Bigbruin.com awards of "Recommended" and "Whisper Quiet”.

| | OCC Gold Award by Overclockersclub | | | SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E OC | Sapphire has delivered another set of video cards that deliver performance above what the reference cards can deliver at a price point just slightly above or equal to the pricing from the rest of the ATI manufacturers.
As ATI's largest partner, Sapphire seems to have a leg up on all of the other partners when it comes to bringing out in house designs with better components and better cooling solutions.
The Vapor-X HD 4890 delivered temperatures when overclocked with a fan speed manually set to 100% of 42C idle and 70 C under load. When the driver controls the speed (61% max), the temperatures were slightly higher at 59C idle and 77C under load.
Now, the Vapor-X is more than just a card with a better cooling solution. It uses solid capacitors and "Black Diamond" chokes that run cooler and according to Sapphire run 25% more efficiently making better use of the current supplied to the card. I think the combination of the cooling and better electrical components played a large part in the ability of the Vapor-X to reach an overclock of 970/1195 fully 100MHz higher on the core and 145MHz higher on the Qimonda memory - pretty decent considering the stock HD 4890 I looked at could not deliver these speeds.
Toxic on the other hand pushed the GPU core speed to 1035 just 25MHz short of what was delivered by the Atomic model. The memory on the other hand fell short of the clock speed delivered by the Atomic and Vapor-X models.
Sapphire continues to put out innovative cards that fit a market segment and deliver performance and cooling solutions better than ATI delivers on the reference cards for what are considered a reasonable upgrade price. You have to pay for performance, but it's better when the performance comes with a price that is attractive comes in below competitors pricing. Go Sapphire!

 | | Great Hardware Award by Pureoverclock | | http://www.pureoverclock.com/article756.html | | SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E OC | The fan on the Vapor-X also ran very quiet, more so than the Nvidia card. Given the fact that the 4890 Vapor-X offers higher clock speeds, better performance, and lower temperatures for a lower price than both the stock 4890's and the GTX 275's, the value offered here is exceptional. Sapphire seems to have their products positioned very well in the market. Boasting excellent gaming performance for your hard-earned dollar, the Sapphire Radeon 4890 Vapor-X runs cool, quiet, and fast, and is a superb option for gamers who are looking for a top product at a great price. | |
