That in itself though speaks volumes about the current state of the PC gaming market’s influence on the design and construction of both current and future GPUs.
Sapphire has made sure to include every other bang and whistle in order to make sure customers get the most for their money. A good accessory package as well as both HDMI and Display Port outputs along with a dedicated VGA port are all major selling points.
The main benefit of this card though is its heatsink. The Vapor-X technology allowed Sapphire to take a card with an obscenely loud reference cooler and make it into a thing of near-silent beauty. To make matters even better, the low amount of noise goes hand in hand with very respectable cooling performance. | |

The gaming performance of this card is great! Since all of my gaming is done at 2560x1600 I've become very sensitive to any frame rate drops. Over the last week I spent some time going back through games trying to see how the card would do. In Half Life 2, a single 4870 1GB still struggles to maintain 85fps in heavy scenes with all the eye candy cranked up at 2560x1600. The Sapphire 4890 2GB rips through the game without a hiccup, rarely dropping below 150fps!.
For some of you, overclocking is very important, and the Vapor X card did not let us down. With a 110MHz overclock on the core and 25MHz on the memory, this card will be lots of fun to tweak.
In my opinion, the Vapor X line is one of the best on the market, striking a great balance between enthusiast features (excellent and quiet cooling), bleeding edge performance, and a modest price premium. | |

The memory clock is right up there with some of the highest we have dealt with. This makes upgrading to a 2GB card a more attractive solution for those considering the future-proof route. On the other hand, the extra memory does hurt the value of the card, considering it is looking to be a $40 price premium at the moment.
The Vapor-X 2GB fits pretty much the same descriptions as most of the other 4890s we have looked at: good price per performance, good overclocking, and good cooling. | |

With an overclocked out of the box clock speed of 870MHz and a memory clock speed of 1050MHz, the Sapphire Vapor-X video card is faster than the default clocked HD 4890s on the market. This card is available on Newegg for $249.99 making it a $30 premium over the 1GB version of the same card. 2GB only really makes a difference when high resolution AA+AF is enabled.
This is a very solid card and the dual HDMI connections make it even more appealing to those building an HTPC that can actually play all the latest games.
Overall this new card from Sapphire is a definite Hot Product, it excels in a few key areas and offers excellent gaming as well. | |

Well, for one it offers up excellent cooling without the noise penalty that the reference cards present when you push the fan speed toward the max level. This card was barely audible three feet away from the case and was not heard over the white noise in my test room.
The HD 4890 Vapor-X 2GB is far from your average card. This card is designed and built by Sapphire with better components that allow the card to run cooler and more efficiently than the reference designs. Sapphire uses what it calls Black Diamond chokes and solid capacitors to increase power efficiency by 25%. This makes it cheaper to run long term by the fact that it saves you energy, and at today's costs that is almost worth the price of admission.
Sapphire keeps bringing innovative designs to market to fill niches that the standard cards can't possibly fill. The HD 4890 Vapor-X 2GB is one of these cards. | |
