ATI Eyefinity

ATI Eyefinity technology maximises your field of view across up to three displays, fully engaging your peripheral vision.  For gamers this puts you right IN the game and for other applications it helps to increase productivity by maximising your visual workspace so that you can see more windows simultaneously.  ATI Eyefinity technology is also ideal for multimedia applications as it allows you to keep several ‘palettes’ or ‘panels’ open over a larger workspace whist you edit your images or videos.

*To support 3 displays, one of the monitors has to support DisplayPort

Advanced GDDR5 Memory Technology

GDDR5 memory provides twice the bandwidth per pin of GDDR3 memory, delivering more speed and higher bandwidth.

40nm Process Technology

Cutting edge manufacturing process allows for efficient, high performance parts which use less power than their predecessors.

ATI Stream Technology

Accelerate the most demanding applications with ATI Stream technology and do more with your PC. SAPPHIRE HD5770 1GB GDDR5 PCIE
After having ran the Sapphire HD 5770 CrossfireX setup for over a week I have to say that I am more than pleased with it's performance. Being able to play some of the current range of games on the market today without lag is a real treat. Also watching the Heaven Benchmark which uses DirectX 11 is also something to behold especially when the with the speed that the dual HD 5770's provide. With the current price for a single Sapphire HD 5770 running $150.00 at Newegg you can buy two of them to run in CrossfireX configuration as we have done here and you will see a nice improvement of your scores. We did not overclock the cards since we found that they worked well enough that there really was no need for that, and besides our goal was to show you how well they performed in real-life situation.

While the performance of the HD 5770 could be a bit more impressive, when you take into account that you are receiving a DX11 card that is ready for new, boundary-pushing games that'll be coming in 2010 and beyond, the Sapphire HD 5770 shines in a better light. While you could get better-bang-for-buck for some discounted models of last generation, we recommend that if you are looking to spend between $150-$200, you give the Sapphire HD 5770 some real consideration. And throwing some Dirt (2) sweetens the deal a bit more as well.

SAPPHIRE HD5770 1GB GDDR5 PCIE
The Sapphire HD5770 is a great alternative to power hungry oversized last generation technology. Of course, it didn't look that way until this week when the HD5770 showed how compact, efficient and svelte a discrete card could be. The new Rotated Grid Super Sampled AA mode brings life back to older titles, and the flexibility of Adaptive Super Sampling is awesome. The image quality afforded by the custom filtering flexibility offered with AMD's 5000 series is tremendous. Rage3D presents the Sapphire HD5770 with 5 stars! Simple but effective accessories and bundled game make this a great buy for any gamer looking to upgrade their older cards.

Of course, the power savings carries its own value into the equation, as does the support for DX11 and the advanced Blu-Ray audio codecs, as does the bundled DiRT 2. It's decreased size and heat are also vast improvements, and I am sure these things, combined with the TSMC 40nm process are doing wonders for ATI's profit margin. This means that when nVidia wants to put pressure on the market, ATI will be able to be more aggressive with price cuts as time goes on. That being said, the timing and execution of the new generation of GPUs is going exceedingly well for ATI. Other than some availability issues for the HD5850 and HD5870, it appears that the ATI is firing on all cylinders, and for now, nVidia seems to be on the ropes until its GT300 can be seen sometime next year. I think its safe to say that AMD has the rest of 2009 locked up; and I can't wait to see what new cards will be on their way.

SAPPHIRE HD5770 1GB GDDR5 PCIE
I was quite surprised with the oveclocking abilities of both of these cards. Both the 5750 and 5770 gave up over 100MHz of headroom on the GPU core and gave up phenomenal gains on the memory clocks to the tune of over 1400MHz on the HD 5770 and well over 1300MHz on the HD 5750. The other thing that contributes to the lower temperatures is the power consumption, which ATI says is 108 watts for the 5770 and 86 watts on the 5750 under load while dropping to an unreal 16 and 18 watts at idle, respectively. Eyefinity is a great idea if you can get past the trim surrounding the panel. Slapping three 24 to 30 inch monitors together in a surround setup could make for a great gaming experience, I see flight sims and driving games as the real benefactors since they already have pillars in if you play the cockpit views. Overclocked performance at cool temperatures for a price that is sure to drop equals a deal that is hard to pass up. Both the Sapphire HD 5770 and HD 5750 fit this bill. As Bob Barker would say, "The Price is Right!".

SAPPHIRE HD5770 1GB GDDR5 PCIE
The Sapphire 5770 is a great addition to Sapphires graphics card lineup. The dual slot cooler was an excellent choice by ATI, as the card had great temperatures. Even when the cards where put into Crossfire the cards ran under 80° C. This is a much better result than the old 4870's that ran well over 80° C when they came out. The 5770 consistently scaled quite well, and in some cases even higher than 4890 Crossfire. This shows that ATI is constantly improving Crossfire technology to directly spearhead SLI. The Crossfire performance was top notch. The 5770 Crossfire beat out or came close to the 4870 Crossfire. This will put a 5770 Crossfire system right up there with a single 5870. Not too bad if we say so. Combine that with a price point of around $160USD, and you've got yourself a deal! Overall the Sapphire 5770 was an excellent card that had great performance, and scaled just as well.

The inclusion of Eyefinity support on these new boards rather than leaving it as a high-end only feature is also good to see, adding a little further to the feeling of value generated by these parts. In short then, if you're looking for a new graphics board to usher you into the DirectX 11 era without either overly skimping on performance or breaking the bank, then either of these offerings, and in particular Sapphire's Radeon HD 5770, would be very much worthy of your consideration. For doing their bit to bring DirectX 11 to the masses, both of these cards also get to come away with our Elite Bastards innovation award in celebration.

In terms of the cards being tested today the two 5770's are very evenly matched - both have a 2-year warranty and use the same hardware. They also have very similar bundles, though someone in XFX has made a mistake of choosing BattleForge for their free game when almost every other manufacturer, including Sapphire, adds a voucher for the much more desirable DX11 supporting Dirt 2. If these games don’t appeal to you then base your purchase merely on price when you are ready to shop.

If considering an upgrade from your old graphics card, you won't be upset with the performance of the Sapphire HD 5770 it will outperform other video cards in its price point, you will also be able to take advantage of DirectX 11 and the enhancements that come with it. The Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 is the first video card that supports DirectX 11 in the mainstream category. If you are purchasing a new system or are thinking of upgrading from your older DirectX 9 or 10 video card the Sapphire 5770 is an affordable solution. On October 22, 2009, Microsoft will be launching Windows 7 which has received very good reviews, for those of us who have waited for a more stable, compatible operating system from Microsoft it's time to upgrade. With that upgrade you should also consider the new Sapphire HD 5770 Direct X 11 video card to take full advantage of what Windows 7 has to offer.
