NITRO Free Flow
We looked at the traditional axial fan design system, and found that the way it circulates the hot air back to the fan inlet resulted in a higher temperature over time. With NITRO Free Flow (NFF) we redesigned the airflow of the entire cooler and board, so that the hot air is expelled through the system fan instead, rapidly dissipating heat.
The new NITRO Boost switch increases the boost clock and power limit for higher performance to unleash the gaming performance of the card.

Sapphire is al lange tijd één van AMD's trouwste partners. Voor deze nieuwe generatie kaarten heeft de fabrikant dan ook een volledig nieuwe koeler ontwikkeld, die nog steeds Dual-X wordt genoemd. Het uiterlijk is echter compleet anders, met twee relatief grote 95mm-ventilatoren als hoogtepunt. Daardoor steekt de kaart wel flink uit boven de standaardhoogte van een uitbreidingsslot: hij meet 12,1 cm en is 24 cm lang.
A few weeks ago before going on vacation I took a look at the Sapphire RX 480 8GB Nitro and was impressed with its performance. Well as these things normally go, with that being the second RX 480 to come into the office, I did spend some time with both the Sapphire and our original reference RX 480 on the test bench to test out Crossfire performance. Sadly, I hadn’t had a chance to take a look at the numbers until today, though. So today let’s see how the RX 480’s perform in Crossfire for those wondering if picking up a second RX 480 in the future will be worth in.
I appreciate Sapphire for memory clock to 7GHz in 4 GB version version and 8GHz in 8GB. Although the Sapphire RX 470 OC is an excellent and cost-effective, the "reference" cooler compared to Nitro + version simply is not good and certainly I personally recommend you pay extra for Nitro + version (either RX 470 and RX 480).
I really like the simple but sophisticated appearance of the Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX480. It has a very simple outward appearance. Again, going back to the purpose built, it doesn’t need a lot of flash and flair to cool well. On the back, a nice solid aluminum backplate finishes the card off well.
So with all of that in mind, where does the Sapphire RX 480 Nitro land? Well if you are on the market for an RX 480 the Nitro is a much better option than the reference card. Not only will you see better performance, but it also ran cooler and quieter. It does cost a little more but the performance makes up the difference.
